Um Son, Did You Forget Something...Like Your Pants Maybe?

17 April 2003-8:12 p.m.

Tonight as I was sitting at my desk, talking to a co-worker, I glance over her shoulder at movement and I see a little boy, probably four years old walking sort of hunched over and shuffling. The reason he is shuffling is because his shorts and underwear are around his ankles thus making it hard to walk. Yes that's right. I look up and see a naked little boy wandering through my department. I have to laugh. I need to address this problem but I'm unsure as to what the best way to handle it is.

I look around for a parent to go with this child. I see no one. I'm hesitant to just go over and help the child pull his pants up because in this day and age I don't want to be accused of doing something inappropriate. The child continues to sort of make his way toward the computers. I think he's aware that he should have his pants up because he's moving like he's sort of embarrassed. So I decide to walk over and ask him if he needs help. Of course he needs help the boy has no pants on! But I couldn't think of anything else to say and I was trying really hard not to laugh at him.

Just about the time I get over to him and start to ask, I hear a woman yell "Max!" and over runs his mother. She's embarrassed. She quickly pulls his pants up talking the whole time, "Why are your pants down? Haven't I told you to always pull your pants up? You can't walk around the building with your pants down. You know better. You don't leave the bathroom until you pull up your pants and wash your hands." and so on. During this is the little boy "mom, but mom..mom...but..." and finally she says that about washing your hands and the little boy says "I did wash my hands!"

He washed his hands but forgot to pull up his pants? It was at this point that I had to walk away because I was laughing too hard. He's sitting here now, happily playing a game on the computer. Thankfully as I look over at him, I see that his pants are still on
