What a nice goose you have there 02 June 2003-11:58 a.m. "Would you like to pet my goose?" That was the question asked by me to many, many strangers yesterday. I was working at the Renaissance festival. I was Grandmother Goose's Granddaughter Gretchen. I had a blast. I walked around for 6 straight hours and then got in my car and drove back to Athens. I did not stretch before sitting for two hours. Today I can barely move my legs. Happily I am not sunburned. This is amazing. I took great care to go off-site and cover myself in sunscreen. The very top of my head is burned because I didn't have a hat, just a wreath of flowers, and my eyeballs are burned. Yes my actual eyeball. I could wear sunglasses. They now sort of hurt, although that's not quite the right word. More like they are really dry. But I had a great time. The other people in the cast are great. You'd be amazed at how many different responses that opening question got. Especially from some members of the cast.I had my hand kissed several times, I got to flirt with many dashingly dressed men. I saw some of the oddest tan lines ever. When you wear a bodice it pushes your boobs together so there is a white line between them when you get tan. Also the men all have tan knees. Well a lot of them, because they're in kilts. It's very amusing. The kids loved petting Lucy, my goose. I walked around and pretty much anyone who made eye contact was fair game for me to go bug. I didn't really know if I was going to be able to do it, being one of the street people instead of just being an act, but after about a half-hour I got into it. Boy did I have a hard time talking like a normal person afterward. I had spent my entire day being BIG and not just big but big with a bad British accent. I drank a TON of water. I love the Renn fest. I had a great time. Although now I wonder if I could go back and just be a normal patron. It would be strange. |
