Space and Movement 25 June 2003-11:33 a.m. I watched three young children hop around the storyroom this morning. They were thrilled just to hop around on one foot, or spin around. Remember when just the fact that you could move your body was amazing. All it took for fun was a big enough space to move around. Fun was spinning around in a circle for so long that you fell down. Or running around and around a big empty space just because you could. I watch kids who laugh their heads off as they purposely run into the wall. It's the best game ever. Once when Evan and I were up at the National Storytelling Festival we went to a state park. We decided that since there was a big empty space we should run aroud it...because we could. We ran and we yelled and you know what? It was really fun. I still love to spin around until I fall down. At the last cast party Alyjack and I did cartwheels...because we can. And I still love to dance. I'm not really any good at it, but I still marvel that I can move my body in lots of different ways. I just no longer have enough energy to do it quiet as often, or for as long, as small children. |
