Something that drives me nuts

02 July 2003-11:50 a.m.

I went Irish dancing last night. It was quite fun. At the end of the evening the woman who is kind of in charge told us that they'd be dancing at the Maternity fair in August and asked if we wanted to come dance as well. Of course we did.

Today I get to work. I was talking to a fellow co-worker about dancing last night, when my boss jumped into the conversation. Don't get me wrong, she's very nice and we get along relatively fine, however, she has this quirk we have discovered. She does not like to be inconvienced. I won't go into the many times she has made me want to pull my hair out because she refuses to see the other side of things. We are on a comittee for a storytelling festival together and last year she didn't come to any of the meetings, because that would have been two nights that she would have to be at work that week (we all work one night a week) and that was just too much. Never mind that others of us did it, she had realized that she needed to be more conserving of her time. That's just how she is and it drives me nuts. Anyway (this story really does have a point) this morning she asked "oh what, are you taking a class, dancing?" in a very enthusiastic way. This is normal, she's supportive of outside stuff. And I told her yes kinda, and then proceeded to tell her about the group and mentioned that we were supposed to dance at a maternity fair in August. "oh" she said, "you'll have to dance inthe morning. You work that weekend and we have to have a booth there. Remember?" Umm no. " I'm on vacation and I told -biggerboss that you work so she and -guy- are going to do the booth, so you'd have to dance in the morning." "Hey since I'm going to be there anyway, and nobody seems to really want to go, why don't I man the booth with big boss lady? I could switch weekends" Look of terror crosses face of boss. "Oh no, we've already messed with the weekends, and I'm going on vacation. I don't want to fiddle with the weekends"

No looking at the schedule, no asking the other person it would actually affect. What the hell does her going on vacation have to do with anything? It won't affect her at all. She actually said that I should just ask them if we could dance in the morning because I have to work. Yes of course, I will ask all the other people, that I have just met, if I can dictate when we do something. Perhaps, instead, I will just not go if it's in the afternoon. Argh!!!!
