One more reason why I don't like Bush 30 July 2003-7:31 p.m. "I think it's very important for our society to respect each individual, to welcome those with good hearts, to be a welcoming country," Bush added. "On the other hand, that does not mean that somebody like me needs to compromise on an issue such as marriage." And I ask you Mr. President is somebody telling you that YOU have to marry a man? NO! Then why is this any of your business in the first place? You aren't compromising on the issue of marriage. You are merely allowing two people who love each other to receive the same benefits legally that you have with your wife. Lord! This just makes me fume. For those of you who don't know I'm straight. But not all my friends are. I read crap like this and I can't help but mentally replace "same-sex" with "interracial" The arguments seem to be the same. Just because the people in power have a certain religious belief we should make these beliefs into law. Well sure. I mean it's in the Bible, so that makes persecution okay. Jesus said we could. What drive me insane is to listen to Bush spouting hypocritical religious platitudes while he spews this message of intolerance. "'Yes, I am mindful that we're all sinners,' the president said Wednesday when asked for his views on homosexuality. 'And I caution those who may try to take the speck out of the neighbor's eye when they've got a log in their own.'" What!? This doesn't even make sense. And yet by complaining against him and his ideas how am I any better? Do I just want to convert people to my way of thinking? But I can't see how my way of thinking harms anyone, and I do see their way bringing harm to others. If gays can be married, how does that affect all the straight people that object so much? Do they really think that if gay marriage is legalized that they will somehow be forced to participate? That they will "become gay"? They morally don't approve. Well they probably don't morally approve of sex before marriage, so let's make a law about that. And Oh divorce is wrong in the eyes of the church; we should pass a low. These are things that I’m sure none of these people have ever done. Maybe these people have never met a gay person. That's all I can figure. They certainly can't be friends with someone of a differing sexuality. I can't imagine being friends with a gay person and still supporting a ban on gay marriage. See in my way, with my view, the straight people can still get married and enjoy all the benefits. They can continue to have extramarital affairs, sex before marriage, and get divorced. Their world remains completely intact, only now same-sex couples can do the same thing. Really the only difference will be that all the stuff same-sex couples do now, with commitment ceremonies and things, will be recognized by the state and they can file joint income taxes and qualify for each other's health insurance with less of a hassle. Dear god! They could file joint income tax returns?!!!! I'm shaking in my boots! No wonder this is seen as bad. Isn't this the most dreadful thing you've ever heard? I may have to go have a lie down. |
