GO DAWGS.......SIC 'EM!!!!!!!!!!
28 August 2003-5:13 p.m.
Do you know what happens at noon this Saturday? Georgia plays Clemson thus opening yet another glorious season of Georgia Bulldogs football!!! Am I excited about this? Oh just a bit. excuse me for a second while I do the I got season tickets dance! *dances like a mad woman*
From the UGA website: "For the second year in a row and only second time since 1982, Georgia opens the season against Clemson. The rivalry dates back to 1897"
I love college football. Georgia football holds a special place in my heart. Granted the traffic sucks, the town is inundated with drunks, and then smells for days afterward, but I still love it. There's just something special about 84,000+ people all screaming "Go Dwags!" I love Larry Munson, the greatest announcer ever. I love watching a game with friends and yelling about blown calls, or dropped passes. Sitting around dissing Florida and Georgia Tech. I love rivalries that go back 100 years or more. I love eating grilled burgers outside in 90 degree heat and drinking beer and later switching to rum and coke because that's what everyone drinks at the game. (you sneak the rum in, buy a coke, drink part of it, then mix in the rum. Or you can just tell the guy not to fill your cup all the way up) I love going to the games and seeing what all the sorority girls are wearing.
For those of you who have not yet experienced the joy that is Southern football let me explain that one. The sororities make their girls dress up. I mean dress up, dresses or very nice pants, heels, make-up, we're talking nice. If they don't they get fined. All the frat guys must wear button down shirts and ties. I don't claim to understand it, that's just how it's done. I will have to go shopping for some goodlooking red shirts. I have several pairs of black pants. Oh the dresses do tend to be red and black.
I have friends and relatives who have no idea what it's like. This town is overrun with people. Down here football is more important to a lot of people than church. A true southern woman knows not to try to plan any major life event during football season. For example you do NOT get married on a Saturday in the fall. A girl I work with has a cousin who has made this mistake and has been the recipient of hate from the rest of the family. It's still being debated whether the father of the bride will show up. It depends on who Georgia is playing that day.
I don't take it that seriously, but I do love watching the games. This is the first year I've been able to get season tickets. Alyjack and I are going to have to find somewhere to tailgate. It's not just about going to the games, it's about partying before. We must go buy a grill and get ourselves ready. I do believe we are woefully unprepared.
